Never noticed it before, Redon, needless to say, is one of the greats.

The yonic symbolism of the shell has never been more obvious than in this rendition of the classical theme of the birth of Venus.

Vénus impudique

Vénus impudique is a Venus figurine discovered by Marquis Paul de Vibraye in 1864 in the Laugerie-Basse. “Vénus impudique” or “immodest Venus”, is a play of words on the Venus Pudica or modest Venus.

It is a headless, armless and footless ivory statuette, showing a clear incision representing the female pudenda. Her skinny and breastless body shape shows a remarkable contrast to other Venus figurines such as the Venus of Willendorf.
